- Pray for wisdom.
- Ask someone who has been through the process and who has kids who are now adults if they would do anything differently.
- Ask child(ren) who may have gone through the process how they feel about being the subject of custody litigation.
- Ask adults who had parents who fought over their custody.
- Visit the courthouse and sit in on a custody hearing.
- Exhaust every other reasonable alternative to resolving the issue.
- Carefully examine your motives.
- Consult with people you respect and who also love your children about how you should proceed.
- Consult with a child psychologist about the impact custody litigation has on children.
- Attempt to mediate the issue.
