How to File Your Own Divorce

For the purposes of the online course and to make it as simple as possible, the divorce process is divided into four steps.


Step One:  Prepare the Documents Needed to Initiate the Divorce Process

Step Three:  Serve the Documents on Your Spouse

North Carolina law requires that the divorce documents you file with the Clerk of Court must be formally delivered to your spouse.  There are three basic options for fulfilling this requirement.  This course will guide you in selecting the option that’s best for you and guide in the completing and filing the forms  needed to complete this step.

Step Four:  Finalize Your Divorce

The steps needed to finalize your divorce will depend on if and how your spouse responds to the divorce action.  This lessons in this section will guide you in completing and filing the forms needed to finalize your divorce.
